Commissioner Higgins Not Seeking Re-election
Today, Commissioner Linda Higgins announced that she will not be seeking re-election as the representative for Hennepin County District 2. I thank her for her decades of service to our community as a State Senator and County Commissioner!
When we launched our campaign in September, we said we would focus on increasing the visibility, transparency, and accountability of the County Commission; creating new pathways for community engagement in local governance; and advancing equity across Hennepin County—these remain our priorities.
From the lens of our community, the county can do more to ensure housing affordability, transit solutions, child welfare and protection services, education and job training, criminal justice reform, and environmental justice. When we don’t explicitly focus on equity, we implicitly increase economic and racial disparities.
I’ve been an educator. I co-founded a youth leadership nonprofit. I am a thought leader and social entrepreneur. I have produced evidence-informed, imaginative, and people-centered solutions. Throughout this campaign, I hope to earn your support and the opportunity to further serve our community by bringing new energy and insight to the County Commission.
I look forward to meeting you at my launch event this Tuesday, November 14th: Irene's Campaign Launch Party!
