FEBRUARY 1, 2018 HENNEPIN COUNTY  — Today, former Hopkins School Board Director Betsy Tate Anderson, announced her endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.

“I’m excited to endorse Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. As a Freshman at the University of Minnesota, she began her journey to inspire and enrich the lives of young people. She co-founded a youth leadership nonprofit at the age of 17, received a Fellowship from the Bush Foundation, and was named 40 under 40 by a twin cities business publication; she has accomplished many things for someone her age.

Anderson went on to say, “when I first met Irene, it was obvious that she has a bold and refreshing leadership style. Her dedication to bringing out everyone’s inner leader has provided her with a distinct and necessary skill set to achieve accountability and equity in government at the County level.”

“I’m honored to have earned Betsy’s endorsement,” said Fernando. “To have an elected official who has worked tirelessly on behalf of youth and their development is especially meaningful to me, considering my personal journey. ”

Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works within a newer division at Thrivent Financial leading around organizational design, culture and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
