Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation Endorses Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner

FEBRUARY 22, 2018 HENNEPIN COUNTY — Today, The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, announced their endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.
The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation is the umbrella organization of Minneapolis area local unions and includes 175 affiliated unions. Affiliated with the AFL-CIO, the Minneapolis RLF's mission is to organize in the community for social and economic justice for all working people.
Fernando, upon receiving the endorsement said, “I am humbled to have earned the endorsement of the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation. I am truly looking forward to working closely with the labor organizations to improve the conditions and protect the rights of workers in Hennepin County.”
An official statement from the organization reads, “together, in this critical election year, we will build a broad coalition of candidates, activists, and rank-and-file members who will carry forward the work of building a local economy that works for working families. We look forward to supporting Irene Fernando as a labor-endorsed candidate.”
Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works at Thrivent leading around organizational design, culture, and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
