Alondra Cano Endorses Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner - District 2

FEBRUARY 6, 2018 HENNEPIN COUNTY — Today, Minneapolis City Council Member Ward 9, Alondra Cano, announced her endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.
“I am proud to endorse Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2”, Cano said. “Irene is an experienced and energetic leader who brings forward a much-needed vision to serve the community by focusing on racial equity and creating a more accessible government.’
Fernando, upon receiving the endorsement, said “Alondra deeply cares about increasing equity in the community. I look forward to working with Alondra, specifically on the issues affecting our most marginalized neighbors.”
Cano went on to say, “Irene will work to increase transparency in decision-making and strengthen the County’s ability to connect with our every-day residents and immigrant families. I am excited to partner with Irene to make a big difference in the lives of the people of our city.”
Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works within a newer division at Thrivent Financial leading around organizational design, culture and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
