Stonewall DFL Endorses Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner - District 2
Today, Stonewall DFL Community Caucus, announced their endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.
Caucus Chair Erica Mauter was quoted with the following, “Irene Fernando brings impressive leadership experience. She thinks about the county as both a policy-maker and an employer and demonstrated a keen understanding of how different constituents apply different frames to issues.”
When Irene was informed of the endorsement she said, “I’m excited to be endorsed by the Stonewall DFL Caucus. I’m impressed with Stonewall DFL’s strong community engagement approach statewide because it educates people on LGBTQ+ issues and activates communities to influence local government. I look forward to working closely with Stonewall DFL to fight for the rights of Hennepin County residents at every level.”
Mauter went on to say, “we’re confident that Irene is well-informed of the unique ways our diverse LGBTQ+ community is impacted across many issues facing Hennepin County, and will creatively navigate diverse spaces to build the coalitions necessary to advance policy.”
Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works within a newer division at Thrivent leading around organizational design, culture, and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
