Bobby Joe Champion Endorses Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2

September 14th, 2018 HENNEPIN COUNTY – Today, Bobby Joe Champion, Minnesota Senator in District 59, announced his endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.

The Senator was quoted, “I am excited to support Irene Fernando, the DFL endorsed candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. It has been wonderful seeing how she engages in community and I know she is committed to working with all layers of government to improve people's lives. It is this dedication, combined with her success as a leader and visionary, that makes Irene uniquely suited to make a difference on the County level.”

Irene responded to the Senator Champion’s endorsement, “I’ve said it before, but earning an elected official’s endorsement is always truly appreciated. I am looking forward to working with leaders like Bobby Joe to improve the lives of people who live in Hennepin County at the county level, especially the voices furtherest from the decision making table.”

Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works at Thrivent leading around organizational design, culture, and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
