Shep Harris Endorses Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner - District 2

Today, Shep Harris, incumbent Mayor of Golden Valley, announced his endorsement of Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2.

When asked about Fernando’s candidacy, the mayor commented, “I am proud to endorse Irene Fernando for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. Irene’s vast experience engaging and organizing at the grassroots level makes her uniquely a powerful advocate for local issues at all levels of government. I also strongly share her dedication to improving growth and equity throughout Golden Valley and Hennepin County and I look forward to working with her to ensure the continued success of Hennepin County and all its residents.”

Fernando responded to the news, stating, “I couldn’t agree more with the Mayor’s comment about improving growth and equity throughout Hennepin County, including Golden Valley. I am excited about the opportunity to work with him.”

Irene Fernando, a Harrison neighborhood resident and University of Minnesota graduate, is a candidate for Hennepin County Commissioner in District 2. The co-founder of a youth leadership non-profit headquartered in Minneapolis, Irene is also a Bush Foundation Fellow and has taught social entrepreneurship at St. Mary’s University. Currently, she works at Thrivent leading around organizational design, culture, and talent. Irene continues to contribute to the community through multiple board and volunteer roles as well.
